ASUS has announced it is holding a press event at CES 2015 on January 5 and we expect the company to unveil some new products from the smartphone category.

Chip manufacturer Intel already revealed it has partnered with ASUS once again to provide the chips for the new upcoming ZenFone handset line.

While we didn't have a lot of information related to the fresh ZenFone lineup, we hypothesized ASUS will bring some sort of innovation to push the new family into the spotlight.

ASUS shows its upcoming ZenFone

Today we’re given a glimpse into what the selling point of the new ZenFones will be. ASUS just posted a video teaser showing one of its upcoming Android smartphones. It’s ten seconds long and teases a device with a dual rear camera.

The video challenges you to “See what others can’t see” and flashes a few, quick images of the two sensors in the process.

That sounds a tad familiar, doesn't it? It sure does since Huawei just introduced a similar handset last week, which got baptized as the Honor 6 Plus.

Since we don’t know much about ASUS’ ZenFone shooter, we’ll tell you about Huawei’s because in all possibility they will boast a similar technology (or maybe not, that remains to be seen).

The Honor 6 Plus has an impressive camera

The camera system on the back of the Honor 6 Plus is dubbed the “symmetrical dual camera technology” and is capable of snapping 13MP images.

The shooter is actually made up of two 8MP sensors with an impressive 1.85 micron pixel size. One of the cameras has f/2.0 aperture and autofocus, while the other boasts f/2.4 and a fixed focus setup. Huawei claims the camera can achieve 0.1s focusing time, which means this is one fast camera here.

As we have seen in the first picture sample batch, the camera also has the ability of re-focusing a shot. That’s probably something the ASUS ZenFone will don as well.

The dual camera technology is probably going to end up on a 5.5-inch ZenFone, but ASUS has multiple variants in the pipeline, some relying on MediaTek chips.

One of these variants popped up in the GFX Benchmark database, showing a device powered by a MediaTek MT6732 processor (which is a 64-bit chipset that includes a 1.5GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor with Mali-T670 GPU). The handset should also be able to support LTE connectivity.

Earlier this month, Intel said that the models that are going to be unveiled at CES 2015 will also be LTE-capable and will boast price tags revolving around the $300 / €241 margin.

However, the dual camera variant will probably be more expensive.
