The ZenFone 5Z is not the first Asus smartphone to receive the long-awaited Android 9 Pie update, but that's not entirely Asus' fault. The official Android 9 Pie update for the regular ZenFone 5 leaked earlier this month, thus forcing Asus to publish it on its official website.

One week later, the company announces Asus ZenFone 5Z owners in Taiwan are eligible for the Android 9 Pie update. The latest security patch and some camera improvements are included in the update as well, according to the changelog published on Asus' forum.

As per Asus' statement, the update should reach all ZenFone 5Z smartphones in Taiwan in up to one week, but we have yet to receive any information regarding the availability of the update in other countries.

Asus announced three weeks ago that the ZenFone 5Z will receive the Android 9 Pie update in January 2019. If the statement remains accurate, then the update should go global next month.
