The 50 Diamond will be initially launched in France

Not many have heard about French-based company Archos, maker of smartphones and tablets, which focuses on the low- and mid-range tiers. Although its products are mostly available in Europe, it’s worth mentioning that some Archos products can be shipped internationally.

As mentioned earlier, Archos is mostly known for the affordability of its products, not necessarily of the highest quality. All in all, it’s good that there are more budget-friendly smartphones on the market, so it’s up to the consumers to decide whether they want to go with a brand or another.

The newest addition to Archos’ large portfolio of Android smartphones is about to hit the market. Archos 50 Diamond is the company’s first smartphone to be equipped with a 64-bit chipset, so we would have expected a slightly higher outright price for the device.

But no, Archos 50 Diamond will be available on the market for less than €200 ($250) outright, which is quite the deal considering its spec sheet.

According to Archos, its upcoming smartphone will be armed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 chipset that accommodates a Cortex-A53 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz and a 1GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU.

But the 64-bit octa-core processor is not the only major selling point of the smartphone. Archos 50 Diamond offers both dual-SIM connectivity and 4G LTE support for blazing fast data speeds.

The upcoming smartphone will also sport a decent 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

But there’s more to it, as the 50 Diamond has been confirmed to pack an impressive 16-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a no less impressive 8-megapixel front-facing camera for perfect selfies and video calls.

The smartphone will be launched in Europe in early 2015

Aside from the fast octa-core processor, Archos 50 Diamond will be armed with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. The French company also confirmed that the smartphone would offer users the possibility to further expand storage up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

It’s also worth mentioning that Archos 50 Diamond measures 146 x 70.4 x 8mm and weighs 142g (battery included). There’s also a high-capacity 2,700 mAh battery inside, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

The smartphone will ship with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, and it’s unclear whether or not Archos is willing to offer an Android 5.0 Lollipop update anytime in the future.

Archos 50 Diamond is expected to be launched on several European markets in early 2015, but an exact release date has yet to be confirmed.
