The final assembly of most Apple products happens in either India or China. Similarly, most of the company’s components are sourced from Asian suppliers too. But in a new press release published earlier today, the iPhone giant was keen to point out its growing operations in the US.

According to Apple, it spent a considerable $60 billion last year "supporting" over 9,000 American companies, an increase of more than 10% versus the year prior. This translated into a whopping 450,000 domestic jobs, the firm revealed.

Last year, Apple awarded manufacturer Finisar with a $390 million contract designed to expand the production of the components required in Face ID systems. The Silicon Valley-based company also highlighted its ongoing relationship with Corning, which currently manufacturers tough sensitive glass for both the iPad and iPhone lineups. Broadcom is also among the list of US suppliers, manufacturing wireless communication hardware.

Apple went on to state that the number of jobs it supports in the United States has tripled over the past eight years, going from 600,000 in 2011 to over 2 million today, all of which are spread across the 50 states. Of this number, 80,000 are employed by Apple directly while just over 1.5 million can be attributed to the App Store ecosystem.
