Last week, Apple released the first developer beta for iOS 12.1.1 and has followed that up with today's release of the second developer beta of iOS 12.1.1. The build number is 16C5043b. Developers who have signed up for the beta will receive the update OTA. Two-to-three days from now, the public beta version of iOS 12.1.1 should be made available to non-developers from the Apple Beta Software Program website.

Apple does recommend that someone using their iOS powered device as their "daily driver" refrain from installing any beta version of the mobile operating system. Why? Because as beta versions, these builds are not stable and could be full of bugs.

The update to iOS 12.1.1 will include the return of FaceTime Live Photos, which was eliminated from iOS 12. This feature allows users to snap a photo during a FaceTime video chat. Both sides of the video conversation must have the feature enabled (Settings > FaceTime > Live Photos), and have the second developer beta for iOS 12.1.1 installed. FaceTime also receives an updated UI with four options (Effects, Mute, Flip Camera, and End Call) found on the bottom of the screen. With the update, those reading Apple News on their iPads can disable the side bar when viewing the app in landscape mode. Additionally, the Apple Watch app icon now looks like the Series 4 version of the timepiece, and the physical SIM card can be disabled in favor of the embedded eSIM on the tablet.

Apple released watchOS 5.1.1 on Monday, and today it has disseminated the first developer beta of watchOS 5.1.2. The new build is 16S5042a, and adds new complications for the timepiece.
