Apple today confirmed that customers looking to enjoy Continuity features in OS X Yosemite, as well as those looking forward to using Apple Pay, will be able to employ these perks with the help of iOS 8.1.

The new firmware, scheduled to debut on Monday, October 20, will be a free update to all iOS 8 users and will include not only the aforementioned support features, but also some other things mentioned by Tim Cook’s executive team at the Town Hall media gathering earlier today.

In addition to Continuity and Apple pay, iOS 8.1 will bring back the Camera Roll on iPhones and iPads, as well as a public beta of iCloud Photo Library which uses every customer’s free 5GB of iCloud space. For just $0.99 a month, users can secure 20GB of storage, Apple said today.

iOS 8.1 should also mend a few flaws in the current firmware (iOS 8.0.2), including some connectivity issues reported by customers on the Apple Support Communities forum.

Apple has also been having server problems involving iOS downloads, so hopefully they fix that as well before Monday arrives. Surprisingly, during today’s showcase Apple didn’t announce a new iOS update for owners of the Apple TV. Usually major iOS updates for iPhone and iPad are accompanied by Apple TV updates as well.
