Motorola is pretty serious when it comes to major updates. The US-based company has promised that it will bring the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade to at least 9 smartphones, but additional models may be announced after most of these devices receive the update.

It’s only been a few days since an Android 5.0 Lollipop soak test for Motorola Moto X 2014 commenced, and now the US handset maker has kicked off another soak test, but this time it’s the Moto G (2nd Generation) that is getting the upgrade.

Those lucky few users of this smartphone model will be able to enjoy Android 5.0 Lollipop on their Moto G (2nd Generation) devices beginning today, but they will also have to offer their feedback on anything that might be broken in the build so that the final version will be bug-free.

The good news is that Motorola has already published the release notes of Android 5.0 Lollipop for Motorola Moto G (2nd Generation), which means we now know what will be included in the update when it gets released.

One of the most important updates since Android was released back in 2008, given the huge amount of new features and improvements, both visual and under the hood, Lollipop is meant to enhance user experience even further, especially when it comes to interaction.

The new Material Design UI is the most obvious change included in Android 5.0 Lollipop, and those who upgrade will notice an entire colorful look and feel, with elements such as fluid animations, new apps and system themes, colors and widgets.

But this is not all, as Google also made significant improvements to the Notifications UI, so you will now receive notifications on the lock screen, which will be intelligently ranked by type and sender.

There’s also a new set of options that you can set for notifications, such as the possibility to set the priority and privacy for each application.

More settings are available via Ambient Display and Downtime. Keep in mind that now, when you dismiss a notification on one device, it will also be dismissed on your other Android devices if they’re connected to the Internet.

The Overview space also known as Recents has been completely redesigned and now includes both apps and separate activities within those apps.

As part of Quick settings, Android 5.0 Lollipop includes a new flashlight option. In order to access it, you will need to swipe down with two fingers from the status bar.

Even though Motorola hasn’t shared any details on when exactly the final version of Android 5.0 Lollipop will be pushed to Moto G (2nd Generation), we suspect it won’t be long until the soak test is completed. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
