Motorola promised that lots of its Android smartphones will eventually receive the latest version of Lollipop operating system, and next on the list of devices are Moto E and Moto Maxx.

The Moto E is the older of the two, as the smartphone made its debut on the market last year in May, but it was powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat. In the meantime, Motorola upgraded the smartphone to 4.4.4 version and promised that the Moto E would get Lollipop as well.

The same goes for the Moto Maxx, which was released on the market only three months ago with Android 4.4.4 KitKat onboard.

Motorola recently announced it has started the rollout of Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Moto E and Moto Maxx, but only a limited number of users will receive it at first.

“We have begun rolling out Lollipop for Moto Maxx with soak testing in Brazil and Mexico and for Moto E in Brazil and India,” confirmed Motorola Mobility’s Head of Software, David Schuster.

Smartphones bought at retail will receive the update first

According to the company, Android 5.0 Lollipop will first arrive on the retail versions of Moto E and Moto Maxx. Additionally, Motorola advises Moto E owners that, in order to prepare for the upgrade they should make sure they have the latest version of Motorola Update Service from Google Play Store.

Customers who purchased their Moto E and Moto Maxx devices through various carriers will have to wait a while longer for the update. Usually, it takes at least a few weeks until network operators test these updates and approve them for release, but the timings vary greatly.

Last but not least, these won’t be the last Motorola smartphones to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade, so those who have yet to get it shouldn’t wait patiently, as the company is “working hard to continually make your phone better and better with the latest Android.”
