The information has been confirmed by LG Europe

LG has just become one of the several smartphone manufacturers that confirmed Android 5.0 Lollipop for one or more of its products. The South Korean company follows Motorola, Sony and HTC, all three making official statements regarding future Lollipop updates.

Although none of the companies mentioned earlier confirmed any exact release dates for their smartphones, at least they listed a number of devices that are sure to get the Lollipop update at some point.

Anyway, LG G3 owners will be pleased to know that their smartphone will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update sooner than expected. Although LG sold a lot of smartphones this year, the company has been criticized in the past for being among the last to offer major OS updates.

Since the G2 was launched on the market about a year ago, LG’s officials did rethink the software update strategy and put the consumer first. LG is now trying to offer a major OS update for flagship smartphone much faster than before.

According to Dutch blog site TechTastic, LG promised that Android 5.0 Lollipop would arrive on the G3 before the end of 2014. The statement was made in regard with LG G3 owners in the Netherlands and Belgium, but we expect the South Korean company to make it available worldwide.

The LG official that confirmed the information did not share details on the exact release date of the Lollipop update, but more on the matter may be unveiled on the next weeks.

The LG G2 will certainly be the next to receive the Lollipop update

The G3 may not the only smartphone to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade, but it may be the only one getting it this year. We can safely assume that the G2 will be next in line for Lollipop, though it’s unclear whether or not LG will be able to push it by the end of 2014 as well.

Since Google will only launch Android 5.0 Lollipop in early November, it makes sense for handset maker to not be able to deliver the update a few weeks later.

They first need to tweak the new OS for their products, as well as introduce any proprietary apps, services and UIs they want in order differentiate them from other brands.

Unfortunately, those who purchased their smartphones through carriers will probably have to wait a bit longer, as updates need to be approved by network operators before they go live. This applies to the LG G3 as well, so stay tuned for more updates on the subject.
