Each year, Apple’s release date is incorporated into the never-ending rumors about the company’s next-generation device. The iPhone is Apple’s best-selling device, so it makes sense that consumers and analysts are fascinated as to when they can expect Apple’s latest and greatest.

According to Amazon’s Japan site, however, you can get ready to get your hands on the iPhone 6 on September 30th. Rumors prior to Amazon Japan’s announcement said that the iPhone 6 release date would likely be available around mid-September, with Apple’s announcement taking place on September 9th and the release of the iPhone 6 approximately ten days later. Amazon Japan’s date alerts us that Apple’s release will be later this year – at least in Japan, anyway. This indicates that the iPhone 6 announcement won’t take place until mid-September this year (perhaps as late as September 19th or 20th).

Along with the iPhone 6 release date, Amazon Japan provides some other interesting pieces of information. First, the only iPhone 6 model provided is the 4.7-inch model. This fits with the words of KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who’s said this week that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model may not be released until the end of 2014, if not 2015. So far, it seems that only the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will be available at launch.

Alongside of the display size, we also get the iPhone 6 dimensions as to the height, width, and thickness. The iPhone 6 (with a 4.7-inch display) will have dimensions of 130mm x 65mm x 70mm, as opposed to the iPhone 5s’s dimensions of 123.8mm x 58.6mm x 7.6mm. As can be seen from the dimensions themselves, the iPhone 6 will be taller and wider than the iPhone 5s. This makes sense, considering that the iPhone 6 will feature a 4.7-inch display – as opposed to the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 6 model provided at Amazon Japan shows us that the 64GB iPhone 6 option is the only one available (or at least mentioned at the site), with a retail price tag of 139.999 Japanese Yen (or $1,380 USD). Some tech analysts seem to think that the price tag is too high, but, in American dollars, this fits the unlocked iPhone models in the past. In the US, the 16GB iPhone 6 will cost around $700, the 32GB $800, and the 64GB $900 (approximate dollar amounts). The 64GB iPhone 6 model, if Apple does indeed raise the price of its iPhone 6, will cost $1,000 off-contract.

This begs the question, “Why then, is the 64GB iPhone 6 priced at about $400 more than what the typical 64GB iPhone 6 will cost?” Keep in mind that all iPhones, when they emerge at online retailers like Amazon in the first few weeks after the iPhone’s release, tend to have exorbitant price tags. Last year, when Apple released the iPhone 5s, the smartphone was priced at $1000 USD at Amazon’s US site for a 16GB model – a $300 price increase on the same phone in an Apple retail store ($700 for a 16GB). With that said, the price does seem exorbitant, but it’s nothing different than what we’ve seen before with each iPhone release.

Apple has admitted to manufacturing its own sapphire crystal displays for the iPhone 6, and recent video shows that sapphire crystal can indeed be flexible and durable in certain circumstances. At the same time, however, KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and KGI Securities have expressed their reservations about whether or not Apple’s sapphire displays will “pass the drop test” when the iPhone 6 is released.

With Apple’s new sapphire crystal display, larger screen, and new metal casing, you can expect the iPhone 6 to come with a price tag that’s about $100 more than the iPhone 5s model was last year. The iPhone 6 will feature iOS 8, and Apple’s new OLED iWatch is rumored to be a show-stopper at Cupertino’s most prestigious annual event.
